SACHIN'S REHAB -- A BIG SECRET!
Can't help it. TOI provides the crappiest!
On page 21 Saturday TOI Times Sport has this single column --
Sachin makes good progress
Times News Network
Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar has made steady progress post his shoulder surgery last month and is now ready for the third phase of the rehabilitaiton programme.
Twenty-four days after his surgery, Tendulkar was assessed once again by team physio John Gloster on Thursday. Tendulkar has opted out of the One-day series in West Indies next month.
The story carries on for another five paragraphs or so. Not once -- NOT ONCE!! -- does the piece detail the "third phase" of the rehabilitation programme. What will Sachin do in this the "third phase"? How long is the entire rehabilitation to last? How many phases in all will there be? What is "steady progress"? Why was the shoulder operated? Not a word on any! The story doesn't even mention the first and second phases of Tendulkar's rehabilitation! It doesn't say how Sachin got his shoulder injury and, specifically, how it affected his game forcing him into surgery. Even mandatory backgrounding is missing -- that Tendulkar, who will be 33 in two days, has seen surgery on shoulder, hip, elbow and whatever during his 16-year career and that his run spree has slowed considerably since the last World Cup in 2003.
What the hell is "post his shoulder surgery"??
Ever notice how Indian journalists hardly ever mention the protagonist's age?

Valmiki - you make so much sense. No wonder reading newspapers is so tiresome.
I enjoyed your honest appraisals of reports. However, TOI is an Indian newspaper and I don't think background is necessary for every story on Sachin. Especially when there's a story on him almost everyday.
